The Great Rewards of Simple Planning Series: Introduction

There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
Proverbs 30:24,25

We all have something in our mind that we want to become or accomplish yet it just seems so far out of our reach that we just lay it to rest and plunge through another day. But often they are just at our fingertips, we simply need to do a little planning ahead. So I want to share with you in a blog series some simple preparations that have helped me realize great rewards . I am not sure how long this series will be, but I plan to post on it at least once a week. It will include my gleanings about:
  • Composting
  • Garden Planning for Limited Space
  • Seed Propagation
  • Vegetable Ferments
  • Sourdough
  • Soaking Grains
  • And More

I hope you can learn a little from my ramblings.

New Semi-Complementarians or Old Feminists?

Here is an article my Mom wrote for LAF that you may find interesting regarding Mrs. Palin and her supporters.

Five Things I Love (to do)

I have several things that I love so I thought I would put a twist on the list and do things I love to do (especially when I am under stress).

1. Pray and Read God's word.
This week I have had a little trial and this has been my life line. God is so good to me.

2. Make something with my hands.
Sewing, crochet, card making, knitting, cross-stitch, ect., these all bring me an great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

3. Play the piano.
My favorite way to relax. I love to improvise hymns and play hymn arrangements. I enjoy classical pieces as well.

4. Fellowship with like-minded people.
I always come away refreshed and encouraged after spending time with other families of like mind. What a blessing!

5. Ride my bike or walk in beautiful surroundings.
Usually this is with my dad. Three or four nights a week we go for a bike ride on the back roads around our house. West Michigan is a beautiful place to live and right now it is in full leaf and bloom. I always return home feeling rejuvenated.

Now I get to tag four people to list their own five things they love (excluding family).

This is a video of a friend's baby girl trying to get her M&Ms. It is funny how desperate she is to get after them!

It Snowed!!!

We have "a little" snow here in Michigan. I thought I would share some pictures I took today of all our wonderful white stuff.

New Things

I would like to introduce you to some of my new things on the side bar. I have found all sorts of things to use to promote books I enjoy and good websites and blogs.

My new shared items list is my favorite. Google offers this wonderful service called "Reader" that keeps track of all my favorite blogs and reading websites. It also has this great feature that allows you to share articles and posts that you find interesting on your blog. I encourage you to check out those links.

Another thing is my store. Amazon has allowed me to make up lists and a store to promote my favorite books, and items. All of the books I own and highly recommend. Amazon is typically the cheapest but you my be able to find it cheaper else where. I could just give you a list of my favorite books but now I can give you a picture and a description.

I am now a Vision Forum affiliate! They just opened up this new program to allow bloggers, like me, and webmasters to earn money by doing what I already do, promoting their products. You can also do this by clicking the link above. There are few, if any, of their books and resources that I would not highly recommend. Also be sure to check them after Christmas and before New Year as they usually have a great sale of 30% to 60% off.

I have also joined a few web rings. I am sort of new to the whole web ring business but I hope it will bring more readers. You can check out other websites on the rings, they are pretty safe but some might be a bit strange. I know LAF is on the Proverbs 31 one.

I am afraid I have been too busy making my side bar here lately and haven't been blogging enough. Please forgive me. I think it is done for now and I hope to post more of my own writing.

The Lord be with you.

Blog Moved Back!

I have been on www.homeschoolblogger for awhile now, but I could never figure out how to put my images on that blog. So I've moved back and hope to get back to writing a little more often. One of the reasons I bought a camera was for my blog and not being able to load my pictures to my blog was quite aggrivating. So look forward to pictures! Hope to write more later.

Welcome to Pearl's Gleanings

Greetings to all who happen upon my humble blog. This is the blog of Lydia P. W. (try a guess at what my middle name is). Herein I plan on posting things that relate to my life as a young Christian lady. I will post things that I "glean" from other's writings that I have enjoyed, things that I write and want to publish, and things on homemaking, sewing, quilting and other girlie stuff. I also want to encourage other young ladies to be feminine, godly women. I invite all to comment on anything I write here. I would like to know if anyone really reads my blog.

Another reason for starting this blog is to practice writing. So if you happen to notice any grammatical problems or bad writing, feel free to comment on it. You could probably find quite a bit right here in this post. I do hope to improve though. "Practice makes perfect."

I hope to post something every Tuesday and maybe something on Saturdays as well. Hope you enjoy my little place here. Keep checking in and you may even want sign up on change alarm to get updates when I add something.

Well, that is all for now. Stay tuned for more!
